I decided to be an artist after falling in love with Willem De Kooning's paintings at age 14. I graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in painting and then found out I had to make a living. Luckily, I got a job designing and building puppet characters for Sesame Street, including Big Bird. As part of the same job, I helped create costumes, props and sets for two George Balanchine ballets, Persephone and Symphony Pathetique for the New York City Ballet.
I moved into television production in 1985 when I founded MPI Media Productions International. In the last twenty years MPI has produced and distributed many PBS television specials including: Victor Borge: Then & Now I, II, III; Glenn Miller's Greatest Hits with Kathie Lee Gifford I, II; Danny Kaye: A Legacy of Laughter; How to Live Forever with Gary Null; Eating Well for Optimum Health with Andrew Weil, MD; Frank Patterson's God Bless America; Bobby Darin: Beyond the Song; Judy Collins Live at Wolftrap; The Legendary Victor Borge; Rockapella Live; The Songs of Johnny Mercer; Love Secrets with Barbara De Angelis; Martha Stewart: In the Holiday Spirit; Rich Dad's Guide to Wealth with Robert Kiyosaki, UltraMetabolism with Mark Hyman, MD; Younger You! with Eric Braverman, MD; and many others. I've produced programs for PBS, NBC, CBS, A&E, Discovery Health Network, BBC, Hallmark Channel and others.
For the last ten years, I have been the producer and director of "Simple Faith with Dr. Arthur Caliandro", a weekly half-hour series.
Im making art full time now.
